Behind the Lens: Capturing Olympic Glory with Colorado Springs’ Modern Pentathlon Team

Hey there, fellow Coloradans! If you’re like me, living in the heart of Colorado Springs, you know that our city isn’t just about breathtaking Pikes Peak views and craft brews, it’s a hub for world-class athletic dreams.

As the founder of Creation Visuals, your go-to Colorado Springs video production company serving the outer Denver areas and beyond, I’ve had the incredible privilege of turning those dreams into cinematic stories. Today, I’m pulling back the curtain on one of our most exhilarating projects: filming the U.S. Modern Pentathlon Team at the Olympic & Paralympic Training Center right here in our backyard. Buckle up, this one’s a thrill ride of laser runs, epee duels, and American Ninja Warrior (surprising I know) and unbreakable team spirit.

Picture this: It’s a crisp Colorado morning and we’re rolling up to the gates of the Olympic Training Center. For those of you in the Denver metro video production scene who haven’t been, this place is pure magic, a sprawling campus buzzing with elite athletes pushing human limits under the shadow of the Rockies. Our team at Creation Visuals was there to capture the essence of the U.S. Modern Pentathlon squad, a group of versatile warriors who usually fence, swim, ride, shoot, and run like it’s all one seamless symphony, today however a curve ball was thrown at them, a new event…American Ninja Warrior. Modern Pentathlon isn’t your average sport; it’s the ultimate test of grit, blending five disciplines into a high-stakes spectacle. And let me tell you, filming it? Pure adrenaline.

What made this project even more special was our collaboration with a true leader in the sport. We had the honor of working closely with Rob Stull and his team in Colorado, wait, no spoilers, but he’s now the current president of USA Modern Pentathlon. Back then, we were knee-deep in strategy sessions, helping craft visuals that not only highlighted his vision for the team but also solidified his path to that top spot. It was one of those moments where storytelling meets real impact: our footage showcased his passion, his strategic mind, and the unbreakable bond he was forging with the athletes.

And oh man, the event itself? Awesome doesn’t even cover it. We were embedded from dawn till dusk, dodging sweat-soaked fencing strips and wild acrobats across ninja warrior obstacle courses. The energy was electric, the sharp clang of epee blades, the splash of freestyle swims, and that final, heart-pounding laser run where every stride counts. But here’s where it got next-level exciting: the team had just rolled out an innovative twist by adding an American Ninja Warrior-style obstacle course event to the pentathlon lineup, blending high-flying agility challenges with the classic disciplines. Imagine athletes vaulting warped walls, conquering salmon ladders, and navigating cargo nets right alongside their traditional skills, it was a game-changer that amped up the spectacle and had everyone on the edge of their seats. As a local Colorado video team, we’ve shot everything from Silicone valley events with professional athletes like Chris Weber and Drew Brees to the OMG Homes with Airbnb, to band-tour documentaries with Black Pink the all-female K-Pop band, but there was just something so raw and compelling in the emotion of these athletes conquering their personal Mount Everests. We pulled out all the stops when it came to camera gear, cinematography and storytelling. If you’re a business owner in the outer Denver video production world looking to infuse your brand with that same intensity, trust me, this is the blueprint.

Shoutout to one of our rockstar team members, Levi, who brought his A-game in ways that still blow me away. Levi’s not just an incredible DP (that’s director of photography); he’s a storytelling wizard with an eye for the epic. We didn’t stop at one video, we delivered multiple high-quality story videos that not only recapped the event and helped market for new athletes to join the team but the cherry on top? We got the opportunity to help direct and produce a campaign video for Rob Stull that would go on to help him win presidential sea for the Olympic Modern Pentathlon organization AND we got the opportunity to create a Modern Pentathlon promo video for the LA 2028 Olympics, teasing the upcoming evolution of the sport with that fresh American Ninja Warrior flair to hook a whole new generation of fans. We able to show how our team, through Colorado Springs video production can elevate to global narratives and impact thousands of people.

Stepping off that set, I was reminded why I started Creation Visuals: to help local legends like the ones training right here in the Springs, share their stories with the world. Whether you’re a Denver area business gearing up for your next launch or a nonprofit in Colorado Springs ready to amplify your mission, our team turns visions into viral gold.
